With its network of quiet little country roads running through forests and past fields and meadows, cycling through Meuse is a delight. CDT Meuse has put together a collection of more than 26 routes suitable for all levels of ability. The hardest take riders over a 1,000 metre change in altitude ; others run through plains and valleys, giving plenty of time to enjoy our region’s delights.
The network of quiet little country roads in Meuse will ensure that you enjoy cycling, whatever type of bike you ride.
You can also cycle across Meuse from north to south, along the V54 cycle track on the banks of the River Meuse, or from east to west, along the V52 cycle track on the banks of the Marne-Rhine Canal.
Meuse boasts a wide range of accommodation for visitors on cycling holidays.
The Green Way through the Ornain Valley (V52 cycle track)
A green way can be used by any non-motorised method of transport. The green way through the Ornain Valley consists of a 29-kilometre sealed path ideal for running, walking or any type of cycling.
It begins in Fains-les-Sources, at the lift bridge over the Marne-Rhine Canal 3 km north of Bar-le-Duc. The green way then runs through Bar-le-Duc and the delightful villages of Longeville-en-Barrois, Tannois and the more industrial Tronville-en-Barrois before reaching the port of Ligny-en-Barrois where special amenities are provided. In Longeaux, the path crosses the waterway. It then reaches Naix-aux-Forges, the site of a major Gallo-Roman villa called Nasium at the foot of a hillfort occupied by the Leuci tribe in the late Iron Age. The path ends at Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain.
