Pick your own and taste Lorraine’s mirabelle plums in Meuse !
Mirabelle plums are Lorraine’s iconic fruit ! 70% of global production comes from our region.
Lorraine is the only region in the world with such a high density of mirabelle plum trees. The "Queen of Lorraine" produced in the orchards in the Meuse Hills can be seen out in the open air or in distilleries. The plums are produced in 27 villages, within an area of approximately 650 hectares.
There are dozens of ways of eating mirabelle plums, including in fruit tarts and jams. Many of the farmers make jam with the fruit, as do chefs. They also use the fruit in various savoury dishes and dry it. Most of all, though, they make a very fragrant brandy.
Mirabelle plum brandy
Mirabelle plums are often mentioned in the same breath as brandy. The drink is produced by private individuals in the traditional manner with the assistance of itinerant distillers or communal distilleries and the fruit must be absolutely perfect and unblemished. It is the only fruit brandy in France to have its own appellation (Mirabelle de Lorraine), a guarantee of quality and provenance for consumers.
