Located close to the RN4 road on the main route between Saint-Dizier and Nancy, nestling deep in the Ornain Valley, is Ligny-en-Barrois, home to high-tech companies such as Essilor which manufactures lenses for glasses and Evobus which builds buses for the Daimler Mercedes Benz group.
It is in this town, the gateway to the Bar area, that Emilie and Sylvain Begue welcome guests to their 18th-century mansion, "La demeure du vieux logis". The house has been renovated in a tasteful and environmentally friendly manner, combining old architectural features (parquet flooring, wood panelling and fireplaces) with chic, minimalist decor.
The three guest rooms (Gîtes de France – 3 ears of corn) are located on the ground floor of the house:
- The "Lac" room is spacious (30 sq. metres) with twin beds + 1 single bed, and an en-suite with spa bath.
- The "Terre" rooms opens directly onto the garden. It has 1 queen-size bed and an en-suite.
- The "Ciel" room looks out onto the garden. It has 1 queen-size bed and an en-suite.
The linen provided is made with environmentally friendly textiles (organic cotton, bamboo etc.). We can also provide babycare equipment if required (cot with sheets, high chair).
In the morning, guests enjoy a delicious breakfast made with produce from organic or biodynamic farms. The owners used locally-sourced produce as much as possible.
During your stay, you can take advantage of the peace and quiet in the walled garden and on the patio.
You can also find out about the amazing history of this town, an enclave of the Duchy of Luxembourg. Don't miss the Valéran Tower, the church (Notre Dame des Fossés) and the "Canons' Walk" (Chemin des Canons). Bar-le-Duc (15 km) is also well worth a visit for the ornate Renaissance heritage buildings in the upper town.
