LE SITE DE NASIUM

55500 SAINT-AMAND-SUR-ORNAIN

Countryside walk in the area bordered by the rivers Ornain and Barboure, in one of the most important archaeological sites of northeastern
Gaul. Three-quarters of it are still buried, with fossil traces over 200 hectares in three present-day communities: Naix-aux-Forges, Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain and Boviolles.
It is precisely this fascinating mixture of local and regional history which the Association la Cité des Leuques offers the public each summer, through weekly walks and teaching
workshops (excavation sites, pottery, mosaics etc).
There are also presentations on the theme of everyday life in the Roman period. The historical society whose members re-create the 22nd Roman Legion, is the only such group in the region. It provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of the Roman soldier through the presentation of costumes and equipment faithfully re-created from originals which are preserved in the museums. A visit to take you right back in time – not to be missed!
