Part of the fortified walls which enclosed the castle of the Counts of Ligny, the 22-metre-high
Valéran Tower remains the most important example of architecture from the mediaeval period. Begun in the 12th century and completed in the 15th century as part of a system of defence, the building would serve as a prison for the area in the 18th and 19th centuries. The visit includes the Church of Our Lady of Virtues (16th century, listed), the Town Hall, a walk along the battlements, the
Valéran Tower (12th-15th centuries, listed) and the Luxembourg Park (conservation area).
