Parks and gardens

Themed, English style, with rare species... enriched with the passage of time, the gardens in the Meuse are inextricably linked to history. This product of the years is found nowadays in these enchanting Parks that open their gates to the curious and to strollers, and where it is a pleasure to just do nothing...
Several parks and gardens in the Meuse can be visited: The Bussy garden at Commercy, the Varenne park at Haironville, the park of the Jean d'Heurs château at Lisle-en-Rigault, the park of the château-hôtel des Monthairons at Dieue-sur-Meuse, the park of La Grange aux Champs at Nettancourt, the park of the Thillombois château, and the Gilles de Trèves park at Ville-sur-Saulx.

The Jardin Remarquable label

The "Jardin Remarquable" - outstanding garden - label was instigated thanks to the suggestions of the national council of parks and gardens - Le Conseil national des Parcs et Jardins - a new institution within the Ministry of Culture and Communication set up in May 2003. It indicates to the general public the gardens whose design, plants and upkeep are outstanding - whether they be private or public, and protected or otherwise - on the grounds of monuments or sites. This national label is awarded for a period of 5 years at the suggestion of regional commissions formed under the aegis of the Directions régionales des affaires culturelles (D.R.A.C.).
Three of the département's parks have been awarded this label: the Parc de la Varenne in Haironville, the park of la Grange aux Champs in Nettancourt and the Gilles de Trèves park in Ville-sur-Saulx.
